Pole to Pole

In April of 2001, I was fortunate to be part of a team of incredible women that set out to ski to the geographic North Pole. It was hard, but we made it.

Now, six years later, I will join another team of adventurous women and attempt to ski to the South Pole.

Wish me luck!

-Kathy

Best of luck on your adventure south although it sounds like you're an old pro at doing this and have an experienced team traveling with you.

Looking forward to seeing a snapshot of the BREW Gaming monkey t-shirt from the South Pole... ;-)

Safe travels, Mike Yuen

To Naomi and her companions - Have a great adventure!

Here is the MapQuest URL for Punta Arenas, Chile, where the team will be meeting up - just select the whole address and paste it into your browser.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&country=CL&addtohistory=&city=Punta+Arenas

...Or just go to www.mapquest.com and search for Punta Arenas, Chile.

I visited Punta Arenas some years ago, on a freighter. Had a drink at the "Club de la Union".

Looking forward to following your progress!

One way to follow the team’s progress is to use GOOGLE EARTH.

If you have a PC, go to the Google website and “google” GOOGLE EARTH.

Once there, click on “download EARTH now”. Follow the installation instructions.

Once it’s installed, you can type PUNTA ARENAS, CHILE into the “search” box.

You can also type in (or copy & paste) the following:

90 00' 00" S 45 00' 00" E

….which takes you to the South Pole.

We are hoping the team’s updates to the blog will include daily GPS readings of their coordinates, so we can follow their progress across the ice….

If you've installed GOOGLE EARTH on your computer, you might want to go to this site:

It has some interesting and useful information about Antarctica.

To Marion and friends,

Good luck with your trek from all your friends in the British Red Cross - I still think you're mad but, as the rain hammered down here this afternoon, the South Pole seemed a reasonable alternative. We're thinking of you!

Kathy and I began skiing when we were children, she kicked behind then. Wow, now what can I say but keep kicking.
