Magellanic Penguins make a nice diversion

We received word this morning that the storm is still raging at Patriot Hills so we hopped on a ferry boat and visited the Magellanic Penguins of Magdelena Island. Absolutely worth the 2.5 hour each way journey. There are 60,000 penguin couples residing on the island. Every year in September, they migrate to the coastal waters of the Atlantic and Pacific to feed. In October, they return to Magdelena Island to have a family. The chicks are hatched in December. In January and February, the parents help the young chicks get ready to leave the nest and take to the sea. In April, they swim.... We were fortunate to see them today. The chicks were getting rid of their "fuzz" and looking more like an adult. To our student friends following this trek, try to find out why these penguins don't live on the ice. Why can they live in warm temperatures?
To our other friends and family, our spirits are good and we're ready whenever Antarctica decides to let us set foot on her. It will be our privilege and we'll soak in every beautiful moment of it.
All our best,
Team Polar Opposites

What a cool city, travel two hours and be entertained by these cute little penguins! They are really classy, what a great photo! It must be frustrating, because you are on a mission, but enjoy yourselves because it sure beats workin'! Good vibes coming your way for a green light, be safe.
From the Syd Kid - I think penguins might be in San Diego today because it is so cold here. I thought that penguins walk on really big ice. I have never seen penguins that walk on dirt and grass. We'll try to figure out why. Hope the storm passes so you can get to the South Pole! We are thinking of you and checking the blog everyday.
Go Chargers!
